Environmental Engineering (ENE) at Kathmandu University was established in 2005, the first program of its kind in Nepal. Since then, the program has grown into a leading center for environmental education and research, now offering undergraduate, graduate (master’s), and postgraduate (Ph.D.) programs.
Our programs are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to address pressing environmental challenges. Through a strong combination of academic learning, practical training, and research, we prepare graduates for professional careers. Our alumni work in government and non-government organizations, academic institutions, and research agencies in Nepal and beyond, where they actively contribute to sustainable development and environmental improvement.
The department follows a multidisciplinary approach, linking engineering solutions with environmental science, policy, and planning. Our work directly supports global sustainability goals, particularly in climate action, clean air, water and sanitation, and responsible resource management.
We collaborate closely with public and private sector partners to strengthen regional capacity, promote evidence-based policymaking, and develop innovative solutions. Through education, research, and partnerships, the Department of Environmental Engineering is committed to shaping a more sustainable and resilient future.
